    Information & Referral / Assistance
    (I&R/A)
    • The Information & Referral / Assistance Program is the “Gateway” – or point of entry into the Aging Network.
    • Trained professionals receiving national Certification with AIRS (Alliance of Information & Referral Systems) specializing in Aging and Disability Services.
    • Connects seniors, people with disabilities; and caregivers with programs, services, resources and information (local, state, and national) that addresses their needs.
    • Coordinates Emergency Preparedness Services for seniors and people with disabilities with disaster preparedness agencies including local County Councils on Aging agencies. And reports updates directly to the SC Lt. Governor’s Office on Aging.

    Respite Care Payment Assistance

    Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP)
    • The Family Caregiver Support Program provides services to help unpaid family caregivers ages 60+.
    • Families that provide care for someone who has a diagnosis of dementia, a memory impaired disorder; or are chronically medically dependent on their caregiver.
    • Services include assistance with information and referrals, planning, problem solving, support groups, and other services to help decrease stress on the caregivers and enhance their ability to provide care for their loved ones.
    • Services are available for grandparents (aged 55+) who have primary responsibility for the care of a child aged 18 or younger, or for an adult grandchild who has special needs.

    Insurance Counseling

    I-CARE
    (Insurance Counseling and
    Referrals for Elders)
    • I-CARE (Insurance Counseling, Assistance, and Referral for Elders) is a volunteer insurance counseling and assistance program for those on Medicare.
    • Trained counselors provide up-to-date and accurate information on health insurance issues for those on Medicare.
    • There is no charge for the service and there is absolutely no selling or soliciting of insurance policies.
    • Your questions can be answered over the phone or at a scheduled appointment.
    • I-CARE counselors are available to do presentations or participate in health fairs for your church or civic organizations.

    Abuse or Neglect

    Long Term Care Ombudsman Program
    • Investigate complaints and advocates for residents’ rights in nursing homes, assisted living, and residential care facilities, as well as, facilities operated or contracted for operation by the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) or the Department of Mental Health (DMH).

Description of Organization

Central Midlands Area Agency on Aging promotes a positive experience of aging for older individuals, the disabled community and their families. Serving Richland, Lexington, Newberry and Fairfield counties.


• Contracts with local council on aging agencies for services.
• Regional Aging and Disability Advisory Committee (RADAC) assist the Council of Governments in fulfilling the responsibilities of the AAA/ADRC.
• Majority of Aging Services are federally funded.
• Services provided include the Information Referral & Assistance Program, Family Caregiver Support Program and the I-CARE program.
