Caregiver Training
In the coming decades, older adults will reach record numbers in our state and nation. This growing population presents unique opportunities and challenges in both healthcare and long-term care. The Office for the Study of Aging (OSA) has long recognized the importance of and is committed to furthering information, education, and research on related aging issues, such as disease, frailty, dependence, and caregiving. The core mission of the OSA is to prepare communities to meet the needs of a growing older adult population and to enhance the quality of life for these individuals as they age.

Description of Organization
Dementia Dialogues® is a nationally registered and evidence-informed, intervention program. This 5-module training course is designed to educate community members and caregivers (formal or informal) for persons who exhibit signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). The modules cover valuable information and recommendations including an overview of dementia, strategies for effective communication, understanding the environment and ways to promote independence, addressing challenging behaviors, and creative problem solving. Dementia Dialogues® is offered nationwide by Certified Instructors in-person and virtually, and as a virtual self-guided training at no cost to participants. Dementia Dialogues® is provided through Office of the Study of Aging at the Arnold School of Public Health, University of South Carolina.
